Creating a Safer Working Environment for Drivers
Kenworth Australia has developed an improved penetration-resistant windscreen, making it possibly the toughest truck windscreen on the market, not only in Australia, but the world.
Australian Standard AS2080 is the basis for windscreen material used in this country. All truck windscreens must meet the AS2080 specification, which is based on an impact-test where a 2.25 kg ball is dropped from a height of 3.6m (equivalent to 30 km/h and 79.5J of energy.)
The Kenworth Safe T Screen has been tested to the equivalent of 101 km/h impact speed and 900J energy levels with the 2.25 kg standard ball, and no penetration of the test object through the glass occurred.
This development was spurred on as the result of a truck fatality that sent shock waves through the industry. A truck driver travelling on the Hume Highway was killed when a rock thrown from an overpass smashed through the windscreen. Following the incident, the driver's employer contacted Kenworth, who were in the process of developing a windscreen that could withstand impacts of this nature.
The result is a windscreen that significantly increases the strength and resistance to penetration from rocks, stones and other road debris. Talk to your ALLRig parts dealer today to obtain a quote for your Kenworth truck.
